As you have a French working contract, you can benefit from the French Social Security Universal Health Cover but you need to apply for a French social security number.

The applicaton procedure can be lengthy and it is strongly advised to arrive in France with insurance covering you for the first few months of your stay.

The agency responsible for health cover in France is the Caisse Primaire d’Assurance Maladie (CPAM).

It handles policyholders’ membership and supervises reimbursements for sickness, maternity, work-related accidents, etc.

To be able to benefit from these coverage, you must register to the French Social Security and get a social security number.

Depending on your situation, the application process will be different.

If you are recruited by the University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne, the Euraxess center can apply for your French social security number on your behald, through a secure online platform dedicated to employers.

Check the procedure below, depending on your profile, and do not hesitate to contact us !

YOU JUST ARRIVED IN FRANCE

If you are a non-EU national with a "Passeport Talent-Chercheur" long-stay visa, all your healthcare administrative formalities must be carried out through the CPAM in Paris, even if you are living in another city in France.

As soon as you arrive, you need to file an application for health insurance entitlement with the CPAM de Paris.

As soon as your application is received, the CPAM will create your social security number within approx. one month and will send you an “entitlement document” (attestation de droit) by post.

You need to provide this document to healthcare professionals in order to receive the partial reimbursement of your healthcare costs.

The coverage will start on the first day of your working contract.

Within approximately 3 months, your social security number will be certified and you will receive the form enabling you to order your Carte Vitale, which dematerializes your certificate of entitlement and enables electronic tracking of your healthcare reimbursements.

You will also need to declare your "Médecin traitant" on a form sent directly to you by the CPAM. The "Médecin traitant" is the General Practicioner doctor you will have to contact first. If needed, it will be his/her duty to refer you to a specialist.

The procedure is the same for your spouse and children aged 18 and over, who also need to fill in an application form and send it, with the same supporting documents and at the same time as you file your application, to the CPAM de Paris.
