THE AEBB CLUSTER: AT THE CENTRE OF URCA'S STRATEGY

The AEBB cluster is one of the four applied science clusters at the University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne (URCA)

Its goal is to develop the University’s research and teaching activities in the fields of agrisciences, environment, plant chemistry, biotechnologies, and the bioeconomy, which are the flagship areas in URCA’s specialisation programme.

The cross-cutting nature of the disciplines required to address the key issues in these areas gives the AEBB cluster a strategic role, interfacing with the other clusters of excellence.

The cluster's activities are fully in line with regional, national and European strategies on the environment and the bioeconomy.

A STRATEGY TO MEET A SOCIETAL CHALLENGE

Agriculture in the 21st century faces many challenges that can be met with the help of research:

→ Feeding humanity
→ Reducing its environmental footprint
→ Taking part in action against climate change
→ Supplying raw materials for applications in energy, materials, cosmetics, fine chemistry and the environment.

The simultaneous nature of these challenges requires profound changes in the sectors concerned, with regard to economic, environmental and social performance. This involves seeking new economic systems and models able to combine the concept of sustainable development with the need for competitiveness.
