If your residence permit is due to expire in the next few months, it's important to start the renewal process early to avoid administrative issues—or financial penalties.

Required timeline:

You must submit your renewal application between 4 and 2 months before your current permit expires.
Submitting your application outside this window may result in a €180 late fee.

Where to apply?

• The application must be submitted online via the ANEF portal: https://administration-etrangers-en-france.interieur.gouv.fr
• Exception: If you hold an Algerian residence certificate – "scientifique-chercheur", you cannot use ANEF. You must make an appointment with your local prefecture or sous-prefecture.

Planning to travel abroad this summer?

⚠️ An expired residence permit does not allow you to return to France. You need to make sure to apply for your renewal request in time and hold either your new residence permit or falling that, a Récépissé de demande de renouvellement or Attestation de prolongation d’instruction d’une demande de renouvellement de titre de séjour, to be able to re-enter.
Even if some documents are still pending, you should apply anyway to meet the deadline and avoid the late fee.
