Graduated from Athens Law School in 1997. Postgraduate studies in International Law (Athens, 1998) and European Law (Aix-en-Provence, 1999). PhD in European and Comparative Law (Aix-en-Provence, 2003), (magna cum laude). Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches (Aix-en-Provence, 2009).

Full-time Professor of Law in Reims Law School, he mainly teaches Wine Law as well as European Law. He also teaches Wine Law at the Burgundy School of Wine and Spirits Business, at the MSc of the OIV and at Berkeley Law (CA). Previously, he has taught EU Law as Visiting Professor at the European Institute of Public Administration (Brussels), at the Bucharest Law School (Romania), the Law School of the Universities of Montpellier, Aix-Marseille, Pau and Bordeaux, the Bordeaux School of Management, the School of Agriculture of Angers, at Democritus Law School (Greece), as well as at the Institute of Political Studies of Paris (Reims Campus). Lectures at Harvard, Minnesota, NYU, Stanford, Davis, McGill… Supervisor of 7 PhD thesis in European Law and Wine Law.

Director of the Wine & Law Program (www.wine-law.org), he is responsible for several research programs in legal studies related to the wine industry. Director of the Master’s Program on Wine & Spirits Law, the Moot Court on European Wine Law and the EU Wine Law Summer School (University of Reims Law School).

Holder of the Jean Monnet Chair in European Regulation of the Wine Sector University of Reims).

President of the Georges Chappaz Champagne Wine Institute, since its creation in 2015

Researcher at the Center of European and International Studies of Aix-Marseille Law School (1999-2008) and at the “Centre de Recherche Droit et Territoire” (CRDT, Reims). Member of the Board of the CRDT. He has also spent an academic year on a Fulbright Scholarship as a Visiting Academic Scholar in the NYU Jean Monnet Center (NY, USA, 2006) and at the Law School of the University of Tübingen (Germany, 2002).

Academic coordinator of the Robert Tinlot Moot Court Competition and of the Law Clinics Program on Law of Wine and Spirits (C.LA.W.S.).

Attorney-at-Law, he joined the Athens Bar Association, specializing in the field of European Law. Managing Partner of Georgopoulos & Associates (www.georgopouloslaw.eu). Internship in the European Court of Justice (2001). Legal Counsel of national bodies and business in Greece. He has handled various cases before the European Court of Justice, the European Court of Human Rights and the European Commission.

Vice-President of the Law and Consumption Group of Experts of the OIV.

Vice-President (and former President, 2020-2022) of the International Wine Law Association (AIDV)

Writing activity: Author of f4 monographs and two textbooks in EU Law, some 120 articles as well as the editor of 11 books, in English, French and Greek focusing on the enforcement of European and International Law in the national legal order (with emphasis to the French, German and US Law), on questions of substantive EC and US Law (especially Tax Law and Public Economic Law) and on European and Comparative Wine Law.

Director of Jus Vini, the Journal of Wine & Spirits Law and of the Book Series “Vin & Droit”, Mare & Martin Publishers (Paris).

Attorney-at-Law (since 2001), specializing in Wine and Food Law.
