OVERVIEW OF THE MALDIVE CHAIR
The RIBP Research Unit has been focusing on the area ‘Grapevine Trunk Diseases (GTDs)’ for over 10 years.
For winegrowers the world over, grapevine trunk diseases are of increasing concern since no effective means of control are currently available.
In this context, the research carried out within the MALDIVE Chair is organised in three areas:
• Characterising the physiological impact of such diseases in order to identify molecular markers with lower sensitivity in certain grape varieties, and identifying the determining factors in the pathogenicity of the fungi involved in GTDs;
• Studying the influence of environmental factors (climate) on the development of GTDs;
• Suggesting more sustainable means of control (biological, etc) to curb GTDs.
The URVVC (now RIBP) led the European COST Action FA1303 ‘Sustainable control of Grapevine Trunk Diseases’ (2013-2017) and is currently identified as a leader among the main European academic organisations working on this topic.
The work is carried out in collaboration with academic (universities, major organisations), professional and private partners both in France and internationally.
The Chair is part of the Institut Georges Chappaz and is supported by the Greater Reims Urban Community.
