DUAL DEGREE IN URBAN AND SPATIAL PLANNING WITH UNIVERSITÀ IUAV DI VENEZIA
The Università IUAV di Venezia is a prestigious Italian university, which deals with architecture, urban planning, design, fashion, theater and visual arts. At IUAV, design is then studied at all levels: from the object, to the building, to the city, up to the territory. The historic school of urban planning and spatial planning, the first in Italy, was inaugurated in 1970, although the teachings of urban planning date back to the mid-1930s, among the first in Europe. The Università IUAV di Venezia offers a Laurea Magistrale in "Planning and policies for the city, the territory and the environment". The teaching is organized in 4 semesters composed of frontal courses and laboratories in Italian and English and includes two training courses: "Territorial Planning and Landscape” and “Environmental Planning and Resilience.". The objective of the degree course is to train professionals capable of contributing to the analysis of the most complex urban, territorial and environmental dynamics and to the drafting of projects, plans, programs and policies on all levels. The master's degree also allows students to take the qualifying exam for section A of the Professional Association of Architects, Planners, Landscapers and Conservatives (Ordine degli Architetti, Pianificatori, Paesaggisti e Conservatori) and therefore to carry out the profession of urban planner.
The Institute of Territory, Environment and City Planning (IATEUR) of the University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne (URCA), founded in 1971, is among the first urban planning institutes in France. The institute offers a post-graduate degree in "Urban planning and Management". This training makes it possible to acquire skills in urban planning and territorial and environmental planning with a view to sustainable development. The master has a multidisciplinary program, offering courses ranging from human and social sciences, civil engineering and environmental sciences. The approach is both theoretical and practical, through lectures and professional workshops. The master's degree also provides the opportunity to choose two courses: "Urban planning" and "Rural planning". Both paths have taken on a strong international profile in recent years, welcoming students and teachers from different backgrounds.
Since 2016 an Erasmus + agreement has been concluded, which allows students and professors from both universities to benefit from a limited number of European Union mobility grants.
To promote internationalization and expand the training offer for planning and urban planning students, IATEUR and IUAV offer the opportunity to carry out part of the respective study path at both institutions.
In 2019 IATEUR and IUAV concluded an agreement to allow for the competition to obtain a double-level master's degree in urban and spatial planning. The dual degree, designed jointly by IATEUR and IUAV, allows selected students to attend courses at both universities and obtain a French and Italian title at the same time: Master's Degree in Urban Planning and Management on the one hand and Master's Degree in Planning and Policies for the City, the Territory and the Environment on the other.
The double degree favors the access to the labor market of both countries in a context of marked internationalization of the trade of the urban planner. The internationalization of the course of study in urban planning and territorial planning guarantees a solid preparation for working also abroad and in international organizations. The dual-title program will provide IATEUR and IUAV students with a unique mobility opportunity, which will allow them to study and work within the French and Italian urban context.
