Teaching and Learning Physics Today:
Challenges? Benefits?

Dear Colleague,

We kindly invite you to participate in the GIREP-ICPE-MPTL International Conference on Teaching and Learning Physics Today: Challenges? Benefits? to be held August 22-27, 2010 at the Centre des Congres, Reims.
During the last 15 years, in most countries, the popularity of physics among students has been low and the enrolment has declined. Different approaches have been proposed to confront this situation, both at school and university levels. It seems that some of them have been successful. We hope that our conference will offer an opportunity for in-depth discussions of this topic and for sharing our experiences in order to move forward in this field.

The organisers invite contributions addressing the following sub themes in the field of:

1. Physics Education Research and Suggestions for Improving Physics Teaching
• Teacher training (developing teaching competences, etc.)
• Initial teaching
• Different ways of learning
• Use of multimedia
• Teaching using History of Physics
• …

2. Physics
• Physics today (spintronics, ...)
• Energy
• System Earth (climate, environment, …)
• Physics and Human Body
• Teaching University Physics to non physicists,
• …

Oral presentations, (multimedia) workshops, (interactive) posters and symposia will take place during morning and afternoon parallel sessions.
We encourage EC projects to participate. Organisers will help to accommodate project meetings during the conference.
Please visit the conference website http://www.univ-reims.fr/girep2010, register if you intend to participate and if you wish to receive further announcements. The call for papers is published on the website.

We are happy to reveal that 2007 Physics Nobel Prize Albert Fert is one of our invited keynote speakers.
